Head to River Street for the annual Savannah 4th of July celebration at Rousakis Riverfront Plaza!

River Street 4th of July

Every year on the 4th of July, the place transforms into a themed party paradise. Thousands of people dress patriotically, engage in contests, enjoy food trucks, play games, and more at this free event.

This year, the 3rd Infantry Division Band from Ft. Stewart in Hinesville, GA will start performing at 6:30 p.m. Renowned as the “Best Band in the Land,” this 40-member unit features diverse performing groups such as the New Orleans-styled Brass Band, Rock Band, and Concert Band for Independence Day celebrations.

The annual Independence Day Fireworks Show begins at 9:30 p.m. and is expected to last about 20 minutes. Spectators on the waterfront can bring chairs and blankets; however, coolers are discouraged. The show takes place from a barge in the Savannah River in front of the Savannah Convention Center. River Street and the ramps will close at 6:30 p.m., and cars parked on the ramps and parking lots will need to remain there until the street opens to vehicular traffic after the show.

Parking, Ferries & Shuttles

For those heading downtown, having a parking plan is crucial. Following the fireworks, a large number of vehicles are expected to leave downtown.

  • Parking in Downtown Savannah is tight, especially over the 4th of July weekend. Those parked east of Bull Street should exit via Price Street and Truman Parkway. If you’re west of Bull Street, use Whitaker Street, Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, or Interstate 516 for your exit route.
  • Alternatively, park at the Savannah Convention Center and take the ferry to River Street for the waterfront fireworks.
  • Shuttles from Savannah Mall to River Street are also available. For more information on transportation options, please visit ConnectontheDot.com and CatchaCAT.org.
